Find out everything you need to know about meter readings: why they're important, when to do them and how to sign up for reminders.
Meter readings help keep your bill accurate
Your electricity meter is read 4 times a year, so we rely on estimates outside these times to calculate your bill. Sending us regular readings is the easiest way to make sure you only pay for what you use. If you can’t send in a meter reading, don’t worry. We’ll use the estimates when needed, and will update these when we receive the quarterly readings from NIE Networks.
The best time to do it is just before you receive a bill
Submitting a reading just before the end of your billing period minimises the number of days we need to estimate and makes your bill as accurate as possible. You can submit meter readings up to 5 days before your bill is due.
We have free meter reading reminders
You can get meter reading reminders by email or SMS (or both). These reminders are customised to your billing period, so they’ll be sent a few days before your bill is due. To sign up for and manage your reminders, just log in to My Account.
They're really easy to submit
Check our Meter Reading Guide to find out how to read your electricity meter. Once you have your reading there’s two ways to submit it:
